Bonucci signs new Juve deal

Italian defender Leonardo Bonucci has committed his long-term future to Juventus, signing a new deal keeping him at the club until 2020.

Bonucci, 28, has been an ever-present in the Juventus defence since he made the switch from Bari in 2010, starting in 82.1% of their Serie A matches.

“It’s the start of a new era,” the Italy international is quoted as saying on Juventus’ official Twitter feed. “I’m here to offer my years of experience to help those who have joined the club.

“We’ve maintained our strong spine. This is vital for us to build on and go in search of further successes.

“Juventus have a long-term plan. We’re seeing a new generation coming through with quality young players.”

“Winning a fifth Scudetto in a row will be tough but we’ve got the right motivation to tackle this challenge.

“I was delighted when Juve came calling in 2010, just as I am now. It’s down to us to begin even more successful era.”

In the last five years, only Giorgio Chiellini (941) has made more clearances than Bonucci (835) in the league and the Italian defender has provoked at least 65 more offsides than any of his Juventus teammates in Serie A in that period (131).
