Liverpool manager unhappy with Can’s contract situation
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he is not happy the club have allowed Emre Can’s contract to enter the final 12 months.
Can has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus this summer after entering the final year of his existing deal.
Klopp is desperate to tie down his long-term future but the club have struggled to convince Can to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Naby Keita would have only unsettled the situation further and Klopp has conceded the situation is far from ideal at this point.
“Do I think it is too cool that we didn’t fix it so far? No, to be honest,” The Daily Mirror quote Klopp as saying ahead of their Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim.
“The situation is not perfect, I would prefer that he has already signed, but I am still positive we can find the right solution.
“So far there is no signing and that is the situation. We are still in talks. But it is all OK at the moment and we have to take it like this. His mind is not elsewhere.”
Since the start of last season, only Christian Benteke (82) has committed more fouls than Can (73) in the Premier League.
