Manchester United cool interest in Maguire and target Mina

Manchester United have cooled their interest in Leicester defender Harry Maguire and are now targeting Barcelona’s Yerry Mina, claims The Daily Mirror.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to make at least one more signing before the transfer window closes on Thursday and has made bolstering his defensive options the priority.

United were interested in signing Maguire from Leicester off the back of his World Cup performances but have conceded defeat in their pursuit of the England international.

The Red Devils would have been forced to make Maguire one of the most expensive players in the club’s history, forking out in excess of £65m to convince Leicester to cash in.

Mourinho’s side are still weighing up a move for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, who wants to leave, but Mina has now emerged as a serious option for the Premier League giants.

The Colombia international only joined Barcelona in January but is already deemed surplus to requirements following Clement Lenglet’s arrival from Sevilla earlier this summer.

Everton are also keen on the £30m-rated centre-back but have now dropped below United in the race for his signature, with some reports even claiming Mourinho’s side have sent a delegation to Spain in order to get a deal done.

Mina struggled to make an impact at Barcelona during the second half of last season but his reputation soared off the back of his performances at the 2018 World Cup, where he netted three goals in as many appearances.

Furthermore, only Eden Hazard (8.51) garnered a higher WhoScored rating than Mina in Russia this summer (8.35).
