Manchester United set for contract talks with midfielder next month

Manchester United will sit down with Michael Carrick to discuss extending his current deal at the club after their EFL Cup final clash with Southampton at the end of this month, reports The Daily Mail.

The 35-year-old’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and United are keen to secure his future for another 12 months following the midfielder’s key role in the club’s revival this season.

Carrick spent the start of the season out of the team but his introduction towards the end of October has not only coincided with United’s run of just one defeat in their last 22 matches across all competitions, but also helped bring the best out of teammate Paul Pogba.

Another tactical shake-up has seen Carrick drop out of the team in the last few matches but United are keen to secure his future for another season as the club continue to plot their path back to the top of English football.

In fact, with Carrick in the starting XI United have not lost a Premier League game this season (60% win ratio) compared to a success rate of just 46.7% from the matches he hasn’t started.
