LA Galaxy sign former Arsenal target Pavon in league record deal
LA Galaxy have announced the arrival of Boca Juniors star Cristian Pavon on loan.
Pavon could become the most expensive ever signing made by a MLS side if LA Galaxy make his move permanent, eclipsing the £11.8m fee Atlanta United paid for Gonzalo Martinez in January.
The Argentina international has spent the last five years at Boca and has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal in the Premier League.
Arsenal considered Pavon as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez when the Chile international left the club in January 2018.
However, LA Galaxy have pulled off a huge coup to sign the Argentina international where he will form an exciting partnership with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Galaxy are currently fifth in the Western Conference and languish 15 points off city rivals Los Angeles FC.
Ibrahimovic has scored 16 goals on 18 league appearances thus far and will hope to benefit from Pavon’s added creativity.
The 23-year-old was left out of Boca’s opening league game of the season amid uncertainty about his future.
Pavon has played a direct hand in 42 goals in 71 league appearances for Boca since August 2016.
In fact, Pavon has registered more assists than any other player in the division during that time (23).
