Arsenal defender close to joining Watford

Arsenal defender Calum Chambers is on the verge of joining Watford on a season-long loan deal, according to The Daily Mail.

Chambers, who joined Arsenal from Southampton in a £16m deal in 2014, has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular under Arsene Wenger and is now looking to gain experience elsewhere.

Watford had Chelsea defender Nathan Ake on loan last season and the Netherlands Under-21 international excelled under Quique Sanchez Flores and Wenger will be hopeful of a similar return under new manager Walter Mazzarri.

Chambers only started two league games for Arsenal last season but Wenger is refusing to give up on the 21-year-old.
