Marco van Ginkel has signed a new contract with Chelsea until 2019, the club has confirmed.
The Dutch midfielder has struggled with a knee injury for much of the season, but has since recovered and will now spend the second half of the campaign with PSV.
Van Ginkel had been expected to stay at the Dutch side over the summer, only for a knee problem to dash any hopes of remaining at PSV.
He impressed for the Dutch giants in the second half of last season, attaining a WhoScored rating of 7.52.
“Marco van Ginkel has extended his contract with Chelsea until 2019,” a statement read on Chelsea’s official club website.
“The Dutch midfielder will now spend the rest of the 2016/17 season on loan with PSV, the club he helped to the Eredivisie title last season.”
“Van Ginkel, 24, arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2013 before enjoying loan spells with both AC Milan and Stoke City. Last season his impressive performances in his native Netherlands contributed to PSV lifting the league title.”
