Crystal Palace have confirmed Sam Allardyce as their new manager just 24 hours after sacking Alan Pardew.
The Eagles made the decision to sack Pardew following what has been a disastrous 2016, with the club only one point above the bottom three.
Allardyce has been out of work since being sacked as England manager in September after just 67 days in charge and has now been tasked with steering Palace clear of the bottom three.
“We are delighted to be able to make an appointment so quickly and fortunate that someone of Sam’s calibre and experience was available,” Palace’s chairman, Steve Parish, told the club’s official website.
Allardyce, who took over as Sunderland manager last October before securing their Premier League status last season, will take over with immediate effect, starting in Palace’s televised game against Watford on Boxing Day.
The 62-year-old only mustered a win rate of 29% in his 31 games in charge of Sunderland but it was enough for them to finish above the bottom three, which Palace will now be banking on.
