Bayern chief insists Spaniard is not leaving

Bayern Munich club chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists Xabi Alonso will not be leaving at the end of the season.

Alonso’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season and the former Liverpool midfielder is yet to sit down with the club to discuss new terms.

Rumours have emerged suggesting the 34-year-old will leave in the summer, but Rummenigge is confident he will extend his stay.

“Recently, I had a talk with Xabi. He feels very good at Bayern Munich and in the city of Munich too,” the Bayern chief told Bild.

“He signalled to me he is interested in staying in Munich. Rumours he would plan to leave are wrong.”

Despite his age, there has been no let up in his first-team involvement this season and no player has attempted more passes than Alonso in the Bundesliga thus far (1,209).
