Chelsea veteran set for shock new contract

Chelsea captain John Terry is set to be handed a new 12-month deal keeping him at the club until the end of next season, claims talkSPORT.

Terry’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the current deal and it didn’t appear likely he would be handed a renewal after dropping down the pecking order under Antonio Conte.

The former England captain will be 37 in December but made a u-turn on his own future earlier in the year after revealing he wants to continue playing football next season whether at Chelsea or another club.

West Brom and Bournemouth tested the waters with Terry in January and were thought to be lining up a summer move for the experience defender but it now appears his Chelsea could be prolonged.

Terry has only started four Premier League games this season, although he has only been on the losing side once – a 2-1 defeat to West Ham in the League Cup back in October.
