Wayne Rooney has grown frustrated with life at Everton and is closing in on a stunning move to Major League Soccer side DC United, claims The Daily Mail.
The 32-year-old only returned to Everton last summer but manager Sam Allardyce is ready to sanction his departure after an underwhelming 12 months at Goodison Park.
Rooney’s agent, Paul Stretford, has been stateside in recent weeks to try and broker a blockbuster move to MLS and DC United have emerged as the frontrunners for his signature.
It has even been suggested that Rooney would be handed a two-year deal worth £12.5m-a-year with the Washington-based team, coming into effect when the MLS transfer window opens on July 10.
DC United failed in their attempts to sign Rooney when he left Manchester United last summer but hope to finally end their search for a marquee striker by prising the veteran striker to America in the next few months.
Rooney has made 31 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring 10 goals and providing two assist for the Toffees. In fact, it’s the first time he has reached double figures for goals in a single league campaign since the 2014/15 season.
