Chelsea plan improved offer for Kepa replacement

Chelsea are preparing a new offer for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy as Frank Lampard steps up his search for Kepa's replacement, claims The Daily Mirror.

The Premier League giants are putting the finishing touches on their €100m move for Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz to take their summer spending well beyond the £200m mark.

Chelsea do not intend to stop there and plan to make Rennes an improved offer for Mendy after their initial £16m bid was rejected.

Lampard is keen to offload club-record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga and replace the Spain international with Mendy for next season.

The 28-year-old only joined Rennes 12 months ago but helped the French outfit secure Champions League football for this season.

Since the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign, only Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan has kept more clean sheets than Mendy (23) in Ligue 1.

Moreover, of goalkeepers with at least 30 appearances in that time only Walter Benitez (77.2%) has a better save success rate than Mendy (73.5%).
