Newcastle confident of signing Chelsea striker

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is confident of signing Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham on a season-long loan deal next season, reports The Times.

The Magpies secured their promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt this season and now Benitez is tasked with re-shaping the Newcastle squad after being given assurances that money will be available this summer.

Abraham flourished on loan at Bristol City in the Championship this season but will find first-team opportunities at Chelsea limited with Antonio Conte keen to bolster his offensive options again this summer.

The 19-year-old is now being pursued by newly promoted duo Newcastle and Brighton but Benitez is confident the teenager will join the North East outfit and kick start a summer of sweeping changes in the squad.

Only Chris Wood (27) scored more goals in the Championship this season than Abraham (23), which is a record for a teenager in England’s second tier.
