Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel di Maria has reiterated he never wanted to leave Real Madrid in 2014.
The Argentina international became British football’s most expensive ever player when Manchester United signed him for nearly £60m.
However, Di Maria’s stay in the Premier League lasted just 12 months before moving onto PSG over the summer, but the 27-year-old insists it wasn’t his choice to leave the Spanish capital in the first place.
“It was always my intention to stay [at Madrid], never to go, I don’t know much about what went on there behind closed doors, that’s stuff the agents deal with,” Di Maria told Marca.
“I left Madrid the way I left but what I took with me was the fantastic moment of that final applause at the Bernabéu, and I feel okay with that.”
Di Maria appears to have settled better to life with PSG than he managed with United and the Argentina forward is set to return to Madrid for the first time when the clubs face off again in the Champions League next week.
No PSG player has registered more assists than Di Maria in Ligue 1 this season (3).
