Bayern chief denies Ronaldo reports

Bayern Munich supremo Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has denied reports linking Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo with a sensational switch to Germany.

The Portugal international has informed the La Liga and European champions of his desire to leave the club this summer, with a return to Manchester United on the cards.

Bayern have also been credited with an interest in the 32-year-old Ballon d’Or winner, though Rummenigge has acted to dismiss speculation suggesting the Bundesliga champions are set to move for Ronaldo.

"We are accustomed to speculating intensively on possible ins and outs during the transfer period," Rummenigge is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

"As a rule, we do not comment on these rumours.

"But now, in the case of Cristiano Ronaldo, we want to clarify once and for all that this rumour has no basis and must be referred to the realm of the fable.”

Ronaldo was in fine form for Real Madrid last season, with his 12 goals in Europe’s elite club competition helping Los Blancos to continental glory as they became the first team to defend the Champions League since its 1992 inception.
