Antoine Griezmann has called on Atletico Madrid to pull out all the stops and sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani this summer.
Cavani was heavily linked with a move to Atletico last summer but turned down Diego Simeone’s interest to remain at PSG and be the main man for the Ligue 1 giants for the first time in his career.
The Uruguay international has enjoyed a breathtaking campaign and was even named the Ligue 1 Player of the Year earlier this month.
However, Griezmann, who has been heavily linked with a summer move to Manchester United, has identified the PSG ace as the ideal signing to take Atletico to the next level despite the fact the 30-year-old only signed a new three-year deal in April.
“I love [PSG striker Edinson] Cavani,” Griezmann told Cadena Ser, via Football Espana. “He has our style. He is Uruguayan and he is going to give everything for each ball. It would be a top signing [for Atletico]. But we will see what can happen.”
Cavani is currently in the form of his life and is on course to finish the season as the top goalscorer in Europe’s top five leagues. In fact, only Lionel Messi has scored as many goals this season (both 35) ahead of the final weekend of league action.
