Bayern defender sidelined for three months

 

Bayern Munich injury crisis was made worse on Saturday after injury prone central defender Holger Badstuber was ruled out for three months with a fractured ankle, the club has announced.

 

Badstuber, 26, has been plagued with long-term injuries through his short career and any hopes of making the Germany squad for the European Championship’s would now appear over after fracturing his ankle in training.

 

With the Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez already sidelined through injury, it leaves Pep Guardiola with very limited options at the heart of his defence for next weeks Champions League last 16 first-leg match against Juventus.

Since August 2009, Bayern’s win percentage in the league is actually significantly higher without Badstuber in the starting XI (81.3%) from 112 matches, compared to a win ratio of 63.4% from the same amount of league games with the German in the starting line-up.
