Chelsea’s approach for Marquinhos knocked back by PSG

Jose Mourinho’s search for a new centre-back has hit another snag after Paris Saint-Germain knocked back Chelsea’s enquiry for Marquinhos, according to French outlet RMC.

The Premier League champions are looking to reinforce their defence following a nightmare start to the defence of their title that has seen them win just one of their opening four matches.

Mourinho’s side have already had four bids for Everton defender John Stones rejected and have seemingly fallen short in their pursuit of Marquinhos, who has previously been linked to Manchester United.

According to reports in France, PSG’s president Nasser Al Khelaifi has labeled the 21-year-old Brazilian unsellable.

Marquinhos, who was made the world’s most expensive teenager when PSG signed him from Roma for nearly £30m in 2013, is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in world football.

However, the Brazil international has found it hard to nail down a regular starting berth in Laurent Blanc’s PSG team following the arrival of ex-Chelsea defender David Luiz.

Last season, of PSG players to have made more than 10 Ligue 1 appearances, only Thiago Motta (92.9%) finished the season with a pass success rate higher than Marquinhos (92.3%), accentuating his statistically calculated strength of ‘passing’.
