West Ham centre-back to be offered new deal

Winston Reid will be offered a new £70,000 a week contract at the end of the season, reports the Sun.

The centre-back saw his current wages eclipsed by Jose Fonte following his January arrival and West Ham chiefs are willing to offer Reid a similar pay packet as the Portuguese defender.

The Hammers will also look to increase the 28-year-old’s release clause in his contract from the £15m it presently stands at to £20m.

Reid is currently sidelined with an injury sustained in the 3-2 home defeat to Leicester before the international break and is a key man for the east London outfit having started 26 of 29 league games this season.

The New Zealander only penned a six-year deal in March 2015 to ward off interest from a number of Premier League rivals, but West Ham believe he has warranted a pay increase on the back of his good form at the heart of the defence.

Reid’s been a key player for Slaven Bilic’s side this term, with a WhoScored rating of 7.09 one of the best for West Ham this season.

What’s more is that only Curtis Davies (87) and Laurent Koscielny (74) have made more interceptions than Reid (71) in England’s top tier this term.
