Striker determined to succeed at Chelsea

Michy Batshuayi is determined to succeed at Chelsea after he revealed he was convinced to stay by compatriot Eden Hazard.

The Belgian moved to the Blues last summer, but struggled for regular game time under Antonio Conte, even after scoring the goal that secured the west London side the Premier League title.

A loan move away from Stamford Bridge was mooted for the 24-year-old, who made just one Premier League start last season.

Batshuayi is Chelsea’s only senior backup striker to summer arrival Alvaro Morata after Fernando Llorente snubbed a move to Conte’s side in favour of a switch to Spurs.

With Morata set for a spell on the sidelines, however, Batshuayi could be handed an extended run in the team as the club’s only fit out and out frontman.

And while he could have left for pastures new, Hazard convinced Batshuayi to stay at the club.

The young striker told DH.BE: "It was friendly advice. When he said that, he thought a third striker was going to come, but in the end, there's only two of us for one place.

“I want to succeed at this club and my relationship with Alvaro is very healthy.

"I don't want to leave during the next transfer window, because we're going to play a lot of games and I will certainly get an opportunity."

Morata sustained the hamstring issue in Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City at the weekend, but even then, Conte opted for Willian instead of Batshuayi when the Spaniard was forced off.

The striker, though, has nothing but praise for Conte, adding: "What disappointed me was our defeat to Manchester City, not my personal situation.

“The coach congratulates me often because he knows my commitment on a daily basis. Thanks to him, I have progressed tactically.

"Before, I didn't think about all that, but I've progressed... just like the rest of the squad. In terms of self-discipline and motivation, I'm also stronger."
