Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches has been crowned the European Golden Boy beating Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford to the gong, reports Tuttosport.
Sanches, 19, was part of Portugal’s Euro 2016 winning squad before securing a blockbuster £30m move to Bayern, which could eventually rise to £70m.
The former Benfica midfielder was up along Rashford and his Bayern teammate Kinglsey Coman for the award, but it has been revealed that Sanches will pick up the award at tonight’s official ceremony.
Rashford’s meteoric rise in the United first team has been spectacular, but not even his achievements could ensure the award stayed at the club, after Anthony Martial was named Golden Boy last year.
It hasn’t been plain sailing for Sanches since playing a starring role in Portugal’s Euro 2016 conquest. In fact, he currently Bayern’s lowest rated player in the Bundesliga this season (6.45 rating), followed closely by Coman (6.58), who finished third in the Golden Boy race this year.
