Benfica want to re-sign Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof on a season-long loan deal, reports The Sun.
Jose Mourinho made Lindelof the club’s most expensive defender of all-time last summer after agreeing to pay in excess of £30m for the Sweden international.
Lindelof struggled to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League last season and now Mourinho is on the market to sign a new centre-back for the third summer in a row.
Despite being linked with a move for Tottenham ace Toby Alderweireld, Mourinho has no interest in selling Lindelof and still has hope he will come good.
The 23-year-old impressed for Sweden at the 2018 World Cup and Benfica will continue to monitor his future at Old Trafford this summer.
Sweden were knocked out of the World Cup by England at the quarter-final stage and Mourinho will hope he will return to United the same player.
Lindelof only made 17 league appearances for United last season, garnering a less-than-impressive WhoScored rating of 6.66 in the process.
Despite looking nervous and shaky, United actually had a better win ratio in the league when Lindelof started (69.2%) compared to when he didn’t feature from the off (54%).
