Bayern Munich have announced Javi Martinez will miss the next four weeks after undergoing successful knee surgery.
Martinez, 27, has been plagued with injuries since making the switch from Athletic Club to Bayern in 2012 and leaves Bayern head coach Pep Guardiola strapped for options in defence with Jerome Boateng also a long-term absentee.
The Spain international’s injury was initially thought to have been much more serious, but it is still a blow for Bayern’s hopes and makes the deadline day signing of Serdar Tasci even more important.
Since joining Bayern, Martinez has missed more than a year through injury combined.He will now almost certainly miss both legs of their Champions League last 16 encounter with Juventus.
