Real Madrid eye Sterling after performance against Spain
Real Madrid are ready to step up their long-standing interest in Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling, claims The Daily Mail.
Sterling turned in an eye-catching performance in England’s 3-2 win away to Spain on Monday, scoring twice in a historic night for England in Seville.
The 23-year-old was on a goalless drought of more than three years prior to netting against Spain and Madrid are keen on him.
Sterling will only have 12 months left to run on his current City deal at the end of the season.
Pep Guardiola’s side are desperate to secure Sterling’s long-term future and had hoped to agree new terms prior to the 2018 World Cup.
Madrid are still on the market for Cristiano Ronaldo’s successor and have been heavily linked with moves for Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Eden Hazard.
The reigning European champions have representatives at England’s win over Spain and were once again impressed with Sterling.
Sterling scored 18 league goals in City’s league-winning campaign last term and has started the new season with four goals in seven league games.
