Injured Manchester United midfielder back at full fitness
Manchester United have been served with a boost during the international break after announcing Ander Herrera is fit to return to first-team action.
Herrera has missed United’s last five matches in all competitions after being forced off 17 minutes into their 0-0 draw with Sevilla at the end of last month.
The 28-year-old suffered a reoccurrence of a long-standing hamstring injury against the Spanish side but has now revealed he is ready to return in United’s next match.
“I feel really good. I’ve been training with the team for five days now, and I feel good, I feel fit and ready to help the team after the international break,” he told United’s official website.
“It was a pity to not be able to help the team after Sevilla away because I was feeling good before that, but football sometimes has these stops. Fortunately, I haven’t had too many [in my career].
“Now is the time to finish the season as well as I can and help the team and we want to try and win the FA Cup and keep second place in the league.”
Herrera established himself as a key player during Mourinho’s first season at United but has struggled for the same status this time around.
United triggered a 12-month contract extension in his existing deal earlier this year to retain his services until the end of next season but his long-term future is less than certain.
Interestingly, United have a far superior win ratio when Herrera has not started a Premier League game under Mourinho (66.7%) compared to when he has featured from the off (45.7%).
