Watford slap £40m asking price on Liverpool target

Watford will reluctantly cash in on Ismaila Sarr but will demand £40m for the reported Liverpool target, claims The Sun.

The Hornets are looking to trim their squad following relegation to the Championship and Sarr is expected to be one the first players to leave.

Watford pulled off a coup to sign Sarr from French side Rennes in a club-record £30m fee 12 months ago but the Senegal international only showed flashes of his potential.

Sarr's best performances arguably came in both of Watford's league encounters with champions Liverpool, which has helped fuel talk of a potential switch to Anfield.

With Jurgen Klopp keen on bolstering his offensive options, Sarr appears a natural fit for Liverpool but they are unlikely to make a move due to Watford's demands.

Even though transfer fees are expected to tumble as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Watford are not interested in selling Sarr for a loss.

Crystal Palace are paying close attention to the 22-year-old's future, however, particularly with Wilfried Zaha expected to leave the Eagles this summer.

Only Troy Deeney (12) played a direct hand in more Premier League goals than Sarr (9) of Watford players in 2019/20.

Moreover, Watford only won one of the 16 Premier League matches Sarr failed to start (6.3% win ratio).
