Everton flop heads to Germany

Everton have confirmed Dutch midfielder Davy Klaassen has joined Bundesliga side Werder Bremen or an undisclosed fee.

The Toffees shelled out £23.6m to sign Klaassen from Ajax 12 months ago but the 25-year-old failed to make any impression at the club.

Werder Bremen sold Thomas Delaney to Borussia Dortmund before the 2018 World Cup and have signed Klaassen as his replacement.

“It’s already played a role that Werder worked so hard to get me,” Klaassen told the club’s official website. “It was important to me to know exactly where the journey was going on the pitch.

“The ambitions of the club have convinced me. After my exchange with [head coach Florian] Kohfeldt, I have a very good feeling that I can make an important contribution here with my abilities.

“The coach wants me to play attractive, attacking football. I’m really looking forward to this"

While the amount paid for Klaassen has not officially been disclosed, it’s expected that Everton have taken a big hit on their big money signing in the space of 12 months.

Klaassen only made seven appearances in the Premier League last season, garnering a poor WhoScored rating of 6.12.

Of players that made at least five Premier League appearances last term, Klaassen scored the eighth lowest WhoScored rating in the division.
