Chelsea ready move for Barca star

Chelsea are considering a move for Barcelona full-back Dani Alves in a bid to bolster their porous defensive backline, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

The Premier League champions have only won two of their opening six league games so far this season and have surprisingly already conceded 12 goals.

Jose Mourinho’s men are also reportedly mulling over a £36.1m move for Valencia left-back Jose Luis Gaya, but attentions could turn to Alves, who would be considerably cheaper at £14.5m.

Alves, 32, only signed a new two-year deal to remain at the club over the summer having looked certain to leave.

However, Barcelona were keen to keep the Brazil international, who has been an ever-present force in the Barca XI, at the club. In fact, only Lionel Messi (90) has laid on more assists for Barcelona in La Liga than Alves (53) since the start of the 2009/10 campaign.
