Roma in talks for Manchester United outcast

Roma are in talks to sign Manchester United outcast Alexis Sanchez, reports The Daily Telegraph.

United want to sell Sanchez after just 18 months at the club and are prepared to pay a large chunk of his £390,000-a-week wages to offload him.

The transfer window for English clubs shut on Thursday but some clubs around Europe still have the rest of the month to complete their transfer dealings.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already confirmed Sanchez is about four weeks away from being match fit after missing the club’s entire pre-season tour.

Sanchez was given an extended break after competing at this summer’s Copa America with Chile but may have already played his last game for the club.

United have held initial talks with Roma about farming Sanchez to the Italian outfit on a season-long loan deal but it’s unclear whether the Chilean forward is open to joining them.

The United No.7 has endured a nightmare spell since swapping Arsenal for United in January 2018 and has been labelled as one of the club’s worst signings.

Not only has Sanchez failed to deliver on the pitch but his arrival has also had a destabilising effect in the dressing room with a number of senior players questioning his salary.

The 30-year-old’s contract has caused United particular headaches trying to convince David de Gea to pledge his long-term future to the club.

Sanchez has only scored three goals in 32 league appearances for United and was limited to just nine starts in the competition last season.
