Championship starlet included in PFA Young Player of the Year shortlist

Ryan Sessegnon has broken new ground by becoming the first player outside of the Premier League to appear on the PFA Young Player of the Year shortlist.

The Fulham youngster has had a sensational season in the Championship to aid in the Cottagers’ promotion bid, scoring 14 goals despite starting 19 of 42 league appearances at left-back.

The 17-year-old is an outsider for the award, however, with Manchester City duo Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling backed to battle it out, though the German’s appearance in the overall player shortlist over his teammate may suggest he has the edge.

Ederson ensures that there are three Manchester City players on both shortlists, while Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford complete the nominees for the Young Player award.

The latter’s appearance is arguably the most questionable having started just 14 Premier League games this season for a modest rating of 6.82, with Emre Can (7.28), Dele Alli (7.15), Joe Gomez (7.14) and Wilfred Ndidi (7.13) among those to miss out.
