Manchester United identify top replacement for David de Gea

Manchester United have made Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford a top transfer target if David De Gea does not commit his long-term future to the club, claims The Sun.

De Gea’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season but United have the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

The Spain international is stalling on signing a new long-term deal at United due to his concerns Jose Mourinho’s side are not capable of challenging for silverware.

Juventus are already monitoring De Gea’s future and United are now starting to plan for a future that does not include the 28-year-old.

De Gea is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and his replacement would have huge gloves to fill.

Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan emerged as a shock transfer target for United earlier this season but now the Red Devils are eyeing England’s No.1.

Everton broke their club transfer record to sign Pickford from Sunderland in the summer of 2017 in a deal worth £30m and the Toffees will be able to command at least double that now.

Pickford only signed a new six-year Everton deal at the end of September and has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Of goalkeepers that have made at least 25 Premier League appearances since the start of last season, Pickford ranks 11th for save success rate (67.1%), while De Gea is the best (76.2%).
