Bayern Munich plot £70m move for Manchester City ace

Bayern Munich want to sign Leroy Sane this summer and are prepared to bid £70m for the Manchester City winger, claims The Guardian.

Sane’s future at City is uncertain after falling down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola this season.

The Germany international made a poor start to the campaign and never really recovered after being called out by the City head coach.

Sane has two years left to run on his current City deal and the Premier League champions are considering his departure.

City have been in negotiations with Sane’s camp about a new long-term deal for the last 12 months but a breakthrough in talks has not been forthcoming.

City want to avoid letting Sane enter the final year of his contract before potentially leaving for nothing and Bayern are ready to test their resolve this summer.

The Bundesliga champions have made Sane their top transfer target, as they look to replace Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben before the start of next season.

Bayern have been heavily linked with a move for Chelsea teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi this year but the England international is currently recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Hudson-Odoi is still a target for Bayern but Niko Kovac’s side may now wait until 2020 when the 18-year-old would be a free agent.

Bayern have already spent more than £100m to sign French duo Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard and are now prepared to make Sane one of the most expensive purchases in their history.

Despite the fact only 21 of his 31 league appearances were as starts this season, Sane still registered double figures for goals (10) and assists (10).

Factoring in starts alone, only two players garnered a higher WhoScored rating than Sane (7.69) in the Premier League this term.
