Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has ruled out a return to Napoli after claiming the Serie A side don’t need his services.
Cavani joined the Ligue 1 giants from Napoli in 2013 in a blockbuster deal worth £55m but has been regularly linked with a return to Naples in that time.
However, the Uruguay international has become PSG’s lead man this season following the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic last summer and is even poised to sign a new long-term deal with the club.
Cavani is arguably in the best goalscoring form of his career, and despite being the leading goalscorer in Europe’s top five leagues, claims his former side don’t need him to return.
“I watch [Napoli] when I’m not playing. I really like the game that they offer, it is a strong team,” Cavani told Corriere del Mezzogiorno, via The Daily Mail. “I am very happy here at PSG, but we cannot know what the future holds. Today, Napoli are so strong that they do not need me.”
Cavani has scored at least four more goals than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season (23). In fact, the 29-year-old has only failed to score in eight of 30 appearances in all competitions this season.
