West Ham are contemplating a January move for former Hammer Jermain Defoe in January in a bid to solve their problem up front, reports The Daily Mail.
Defoe, 34, is still contracted to Sunderland until 2019 and is arguably their most important player having still remained a deadly finisher in front of goal despite entering his twilight years.
The former England international started his senior career with West Ham after joining from Charlton Athletic in 1999 before making a £7m move to Tottenham on deadline day in 2004.
West Ham are desperately looking to solve their problem in attack and have already enquired after United duo Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, while a move for Brentford striker Scott Hogan and Argentine striker Lucas Pratto have been mooted.
However, now Slaven Bilic’s side are even exploring the chance of bringing Defoe back to the club, although Sunderland, a relegation rival, won’t let him go without a fight, or on the cheap.
In 2016 only Sergio Aguero (27), Harry Kane (21) and Diego Costa (20) have scored more goals than Defoe (19).
