Everton keen to sign Swansea star this summer

Everton are eager to sign Swansea sensation Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The Toffees are resigned to losing playmaker Ross Barkley at the end of the season, with manager Ronald Koeman recently issuing the England international with a deadline to pen a new deal.

With a little over 12 months to run on his current deal, Everton are willing to cash in on Barkley this summer rather than lose him on a free, with Koeman already eyeing up Sigurdsson as his replacement.

The 27-year-old has thrived for Swansea this season, with the Icelander ranking second for assists (12) and fifth for key passes (77) in the Premier League.

The Swans are reluctant to cash in on the Iceland international, though with the south Wales side not yet safe from the threat of relegation, could be forced into selling should they drop into the Championship.

Everton would likely face stiff competition from a number of Premier League rivals to secure Sigurdsson’s services, while Swansea - should they stay up - are under no pressure to sell the star man, with his current contract running until 2020.
