Premier League giants on alert as Bayern Munich ace hints at summer exit
Jerome Boateng has put a host of Premier League giants on red alert after hinting this season could be his last at Bayern Munich.
The Germany international has spent the last seven years at Bayern after completing a move from Manchester City in 2011.
Boateng has developed into an elite defender during his time in Germany but has struggled to stay fit for prolonged periods during the last three years.
The 29-year-old is now expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a thigh injury in Bayern’s Champions League semi-final first leg defeat at home to Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Boateng’s future at Bayern was cast into doubt in November 2016 following a dispute with CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, but now the towering centre-back has hinted at a summer exit.
“I’ve experienced everything at FC Bayern, and I am slowly coming to a point where I must answer myself certain questions,” he told Socrates Magazine.
“What are the goals I have not reached yet? Do I, time and time again, want to prove myself at the same club with the same pre-conditions?
“Those are not necessarily classic questions regarding the career, but vital questions and, in the end, questions that drive people.”
Despite another injury-hit campaign, Boateng is on course to garner his highest WhoScored rating (7.16) in a single campaign since the 2014/15 season (7.26).
