Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is set to sign a new contract extension keeping him with the Ligue 1 champions until 2020, according to Sky Italia, via Get French Football.
Cavani, 29, was regularly touted with a move away from PSG last season after dropping down the pecking order but Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure has changed the situation.
The Uruguay international, who toiled at the Copa America this month, has been forced to play out wide in order to accommodate Ibrahimovic but he now has the chance to stake a claim as their out-and-out centre forward.
Cavani still has two years left to run on his existing deal but is now set to extend that by a further two years with a salary increase to €8m a year (£6.3m).
Despite having played out of position for the majority of his three-year stint at PSG, only Alexandre Lacazette (75) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (113) have played a direct hand in more league goals in Ligue 1 than Cavani (61).
