Pochettino confident Kane and Lloris will commit futures

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is not concerned about breakdowns in talks to extend the contracts of Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris and remains confident the stars will pen new deals.

The Premier League club’s strict wage structure has come in for its biggest test as two of their best players dig in their heels and look to be rewarded handsomely for their fine performances for the club.

Kane and Lloris are both reported to want in excess of £100,000-a-week in order to commit their long-term future to the club, but that would break the self-imposed wage structure Daniel Levy has implemented at the club.

However, despite the fact Tottenham are yet to make a break through in discussions, Pochettino insists he is still confident the pair will end up signing new deals and not leave the club.

“You know for us they are players that are very important, Harry and Hugo,” The Daily Mail quotes the Spurs boss as saying. “But they have current contracts and they are very happy - that is the most important thing.

“They are very happy to be here and we are very happy that they are here. Maybe there are a lot of rumours that can affect our fans but the fans need to be quiet and have no worries about this because the players show their commitment to the club, they want to be here for the long term.

“I think they’re talking. The club and the players are talking about maybe improving or having extended contracts, in the future I think it’s not a big problem to do. It’s true that you always want to keep your best players and try to pay them as they deserve to be paid, but I think the club is doing a great job and the players too. It’s only time to fit everything in and we cannot be worried about things like this because the players are very happy.”

Kane still has four years left to run on his existing deal, while captain Lloris’ current contract isn’t due to expire until 2019. Both have developed into integral players for the club and are still set to join the likes of Eric Dier, Kyle Walker, Tom Carroll, Christian Eriksen and Danny Rose in extending their stay this season.

In the last three Premier League campaigns only Sergio Aguero (58) has scored more goals than Kane (49).
