Real Madrid future in president’s hands, says Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted he is willing to extend his stay at Real Madrid but conceded president Florentino Perez will decide his future.

The Portugal international sensationally wanted to quit Madrid at the end of last season after growing tired of the treatment he believed he was enduring from Spanish tax authorities.

Ronaldo eventually, although not to the surprise of many, backtracked on his stance and is now open to the idea of signing a new contract that will extend his stay beyond 2021, when his current deal expires.

However, even Ronaldo, who only signed a new £365,000-a-week deal in November, has conceded that he is not in control of his own destiny and will wait to hear on Perez’s plans before extending his stay.

“If I will renew? It’s a good question,” he told Atresmedia, via The Daily Mail after Madrid’s 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. “I am glad. Things happen naturally, but it is a question that the president can answer best. I’m happy, I do what I like and I’m happy.”

Ronaldo scored twice in Madrid’s 3-1 win over Dortmund in their second Champions League group game, taking his obscene goalscoring tally to 411 in 400 appearances for the reigning European champions.
