Everton on track to land Arsenal forward on free

Everton are the frontrunners to land Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck on a free transfer this summer, claims the London Evening Standard.

Arsenal have decided not to prolong Welbeck’s contract, which will expire at the end of next month, after five years at the club.

Welbeck has struggled with injuries during that time and has only just returned to full training after breaking his ankle in November.

Despite never starting more than 20 league games in a single season for the Gunners, Welbeck is not short of Premier League interest.

The likes of West Ham, Wolves and Newcastle are reportedly all keen on the 28-year-old but Everton are the favourites to land his signature, even offering him an increase on his current £100,000-a-week salary.

Everton signed Theo Walcott from Arsenal in January 2018 and are now ready to return to the north London outfit to bolster their offensive options.

Welbeck, who tends to play better for England than he does for his clubs, has never scored 10 goals in a single Premier League season in his career.
