Chelsea have confirmed Branislav Ivanovic has signed a new one-year deal at the club.
Ivanovic, who turns 32 next month, had entered the final six months of his current deal at Stamford Bridge and there had been concerns Chelsea would let him see out his deal following his poor start to the season.
The Serbia international has been linked with a move abroad but has finally put pen to paper on a new deal keeping him at Chelsea until the end of next season.
“I am very happy to stay with Chelsea for another season,” Ivanovic told the club’s official website. “After eight years here this is my home and there is no other place I would rather play football.
“I have enjoyed so much success since moving to the club and I am determined to help the team achieve more in the last months of this season and next year as well.”
Since the 2009/10 campaign, Ivanovic has only committed one error that has directly led to a goal in the Premier League, which is a staggering feat for a defender that plays every week.
