United and Barcelona target agrees four-year deal with Bayern

Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels has snubbed interest from the Premier League and agreed terms to a four-year deal to re-join Bayern Munich in the summer, according to German newspaper Bild, via 101 Great Goals.

Hummels, 27, has been heavily linked with a move away from Dortmund over the last two campaigns and with only a year remaining on his current deal at the end of the season he has signalled his intentions to the club to end his seven-year association.

The Germany World Cup winner started his career at Bayern aged 6, which may surprise many. The confident central defender failed to break into the Bayern first-team before eventually moving to Dortmund permanently in 2009.

Dortmund had been hoping he would extend his stay at the Westfalenstadion but are now forced to sell this summer rather than lose him on a free at the end of next season. Bayern have reportedly reached a deal with Thomas Tuchel’s side to sign Hummels for €30m (£23.4m).

Hummels started the season slowly but his performances have improved in the second half of the campaign. He has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United and Barcelona, but his playing style is more suitable to Bayern. In fact, in the Europa League this season, only teammate Julian Weigl (91%) has a better pass success rate than Hummels (89%) of players to have made at least 10 appearances in the competition this season.
