Monk set for fresh terms at Leeds

Leeds United are on the verge of handing Garry Monk a fresh contract to reward the former Swansea City manager for giving the club its first genuine promotion push in years, reports The Sun.

Monk, 38, was made Leeds boss at the start of the season on a 12-month deal but the Championship outfit are keen to get his future sorted before the end of the current campaign with a number of clubs interested in the young manager.

The Peacocks are currently fourth in the Championship and must now look to consolidate their place in the play-offs over the remaining 10 matches with Brighton and Newcastle realistically out of reach as the league’s top two clubs.

Leeds supporters have been crying out for some stability at the club since their relegation from the Premier League in 2004 and the club are now poised to extend Monk’s stay by a further 12 months.

Since taking charge of the club Monk has won more than half of his matches in charge (58.1%).
