West Brom earmark move for Manchester United goalkeeper

West Brom will move to replace Ben Foster with Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, according to The Daily Mail.

Watford want to hand Foster an immediate return to the Premier League and the former United shotstopper is trying to force through a move.

The 35-year-old even refused to join the rest of his West Brom team-mates on their pre-season training camp to Portugal last week.

Darren Moore’s side are willing to let the former England international leave but have rejected a measly £1m offer from Watford for his services.

The Baggies have already lined up Johnstone to replace Foster after he impressed on loan at Aston Villa last season.

Villa would like to retain Johnstone’s services but they are currently in financial turmoil, paving the way for West Brom to make a move.

United are on the verge of making Lee Grant their third choice goalkeeper for next season, allowing Johnstone to leave.

The 25-year-old’s existing United deal is due to expire at the end of next season and Jose Mourinho’s side are holding out for £5m for his signature.

Only Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli (78.8%) had a better save success rate than Johnstone (76.6%) in the Championship last season.
