Manchester United not optimistic on Ibrahimovic’s horror injury
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hopes Zlatan Ibrahimovic has avoided a serious knee injury but is not optimistic about his chances of playing again this season.
Ibrahimovic landed horribly on his knee after contesting an aerial duel before hyperextending his leg in a similar way that saw Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma miss eight months through injury.
The former Sweden international sustained the injury in the final minute of normal time before United went on to secure the tie in extra-time and Mourinho is not hopeful on scan results of Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo’s knee injuries.
“I don’t think they are easy injuries, but I prefer to wait for all the tests to be done tomorrow,” ESPN quote Mourinho as saying after the match. “I want to wait. My feeling is not great for both. I want to be optimistic, but I’m not.
“I can’t say any more than that, I am not a doctor.”
Ibrahimovic has been in tremendous form for United since joining on a free transfer over the summer but United appear to have excelled with the pace of Marcus Rashford up front in compared to the static movement of Ibrahimovic.
Nevertheless, the 35-year-old has scored at least 11 more goals than any other United player in the Premier League this season (17) and his absence is a real blow for United’s chances of finishing in the top 4 and winning the Europa League.
