Chelsea put brakes on David Alaba pursuit

Chelsea are unlikely to take their interest in David Alaba any further unless the Bayern Munich defender drops his enormous wage demands, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Alaba is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and widely expected to sign for Real Madrid on a lucrative free transfer.

Alaba's representatives have made it clear no decision has yet been taken on his future but Madrid are the clear favourites for his signature.

Chelsea have expressed an interest in the 28-year-old since Thomas Tuchel's arrival but have been put off by Alaba's eye-watering £400,000-a-week wage demands.

The Premier League outfit have an option to extend Thiago Silva's contract by another 12 months and the Brazilian is hopeful of remaining at the club beyond this season.

Alaba was considered a long-term option for Silva but any move is unlikely to happen unless the Bayern defender drops his financial demands.

Silva has performed above expectations both on and off the pitch since his free transfer arrival over the summer.

The 36-year-old ranks second for both most passes per game (88) and pass accuracy in the Premier League this season (93.2%).
