Villarreal boss confirms interest in Soldado

Villarreal manager Marcelino has confirmed he is interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Roberto Soldado.

The Spaniard moved to White Hart Lane from Valencia two years ago, but failed to match his goalscoring exploits in Spain following his £26m switch to London.

Soldado, 30, has managed just seven league goals in two seasons for Spurs and the club are now willing to entertain offers for the frontman, albeit making a loss on his original fee.

The Yellow Submarines are rumoured to have enquired about his availability and now Marcelino has talked up the possibility of Soldado moving to Villarreal.

"He is a footballer who is very capable," Marcelino is quoted as saying by Spanish publication Marca.

"The fact that he has lacked regular playing time and has not had the confidence of his team in the past two seasons may have affected his performances.

"But it's difficult for one who has always scored goals to forget how to do so. We want strikers that can increase the team level and can add more competitiveness to our group."

Soldado was left out of the Spurs squad that travelled to America for the upcoming MLS All-Star Game, heightening speculation that he is set for a move away from the north London side.
