Tottenham duo return to first-team training

Tottenham have been handed a huge boost after announcing Danny Rose and Erik Lamela have returned to first-team training following long spells out injured.

Neither are expected to feature in Tottenham’s clash with Bournemouth at Wembley on Saturday but news they are able to take part with the rest of the first-team squad is a huge boost for Mauricio Pochettino.

Lamela has endured a tortuous 12 months after undergoing hip surgery on two occasions and Tottenham fans were wondering whether they’d ever get to see the Argentine again.

The 25-year-old was a crucial part of Tottenham’s playing style before his injury and has now turned into something of a forgotten man in north London for Pochettino’s side.

Rose has also been sidelined for the best part of 10 months and underwent knee surgery in May that ruled him out for the start of the current campaign.

The England international, who is continually linked with a move to Manchester United, will have his work cut out to get his way back in the team following Ben Davies’ impressive start to the season.

In fact, the numbers suggest Rose’s absence has not been a significant blow for Tottenham at all. Since August 2015, Tottenham have won a greater proportion of their Premier League matches without Rose in the starting XI (63.4%) compared to when he has started (54.8%).
