Cristiano Ronaldo has reiterated his desire to continue playing for another 10 years after signing a new five-year deal with Real Madrid.
The 31-year-old, who joined Madrid in 2009 for a then world record £80m fee, has signed a fresh long-term deal keeping him at Madrid until 2021, which would mean he has stayed at the club one year longer than the club’s all-time greatest Alfredo Di Stefano.
However, Ronaldo isn’t interested in stopping there. Instead, the Portugal international, who is the favourite to win the next Ballon d’Or, wants to continue playing until he is 41 and is targeting 500 career goals for Madrid.
“This is a special day for me, extending my links with this club, the club of my heart,” said Ronaldo at the presentation for his new deal, via The Daily Mail. “Renewing for five years is very special and let it be clear that his is not the last contract.
“I want to keep making history and I’m sure that in the next five years I will keep scoring goals and winning trophies with the best club in the world. I want to finish my career at this club but I want this to my penultimate contract."
Ronaldo has endured a frustrating campaign up till now and is currently on course to average his lowest WhoScored.com rating (7.44) in a league campaign since the 09/10 campaign.
The former Manchester United forward has scored five league goals in eight matches this season, but they only come in three matches and against lesser opposition.
