Atletico Madrid have announced goalkeeper Jan Oblak has signed a new five-year deal keeping him at the club until June 2021.
Oblak, 23, was signed as Thibaut Courtois’ replacement when he signed a six-year deal from Benfica in July 2014.
The Slovenia international has usurped Miguel Angel Moya as the undisputed number one choice between the sticks this season and is widely regarded as one of the best up-and-coming goalkeepers in Europe.
In fact, Oblak has been a huge factor behind Atletico boosting one of the best defensive backlines in Europe’s top five leagues. Indeed, only Bayern Munich (9) have conceded fewer goals than Atletico (11) this season and no goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than Oblak this season (14).
